"She Likes To Shake The Banana" - David Landeo

- "Respect" - "Respect" was written with the influences of certain Neil Young and Tom Petty type of arrangements. Since it was the first track recorded for the project, I found myself being too careful with it's evolving process. However I do think the simplicity of the drums made it work overall. Music Lyrics
- "Don't Forget The In Between" - One of my favorites off the album. I purposely wanted it to be 'acoustic friendly'...meaning I could play it live at an acoustic show without the song sounding radically different from the C.D's version. As a matter of fact, all of the session's tunes were recorded with that intent. This one is definitely fun to perform live... streams of high energy. Music Lyrics
- "Then You Hold Me" - The feel of this song reminding me of Pure Priarie League's "Amie"...when I was initially writing it. I guess it was the guitar licks at the intro. Travis (the sound engineer) suggested layering several guitar tracks. I liked the outcome.....it sounds fat...however there'd have to be 8 guitarists playing at certain parts to duplicate the studio recording. The lyrics came from my archives of years back. The simple chorus makes it a popular request at shows. Lyrics
- "The Weeping Tower" - On my first trip to Europe in '98, I had hoped to come back home with several song ideas. I had many ideas hidden in the back of my cerebral cortex, however, this is the first one that was hatched. It's a fictional scenario centered around friends/lovers who meet and bond in Amsterdam, Holland only to realize they must continue on with their live's that existed before their "encounter". Was it a fling or something real that they experienced? They don't know...or do they? The "Weeping Tower" is an actual tower in Amsterdam used around the 1500's as an assembly point for all the wives/girlfriends seeing their men off to sea. The men could be gone for months..or years...or never seen again...hence, the title. It was also a place of anticipation and hope. I think the end of the song revels on that same sort of hope. Lyrics
- "She Likes To Shake The Banana" - I wanted to write a song that you could limbo to....if you ever even had the desire to. I had experimented with different tempos before I settled with it. I recorded at my home studio different versions with different beats to see which were limbo danceable. After witnessing at many shows the spontaneous urge of people to stretch their bodies under a broom, I knew it was a matter of time before I'd have my own limbo tune ready for the call! Lyrics
- "The Spoon Tune" - I used instruments I brought back from a trip to Peru, South America in the Winter of '97 for this particular recording. The classical guitar used was purchased in the city of Ayacucho..the birthplace of my father, Dante. The "cahone" (box percussion) was a gift made by my cousin Max...who resides in Lima. The arrangement was borrowed from the style of one of Peru's prized traditional musical groups "Los Murochucos" (natives of Ayacucho). It was only natural to insert Spanish lyrics within the song. I took an approach to that somewhat of a crooner for the vocals. It's a silly song lyrically, however, that is the premise to it's honesty. Lyrics
- "So Famous" - One of only 2 songs in which I used a section of a sampled drum loop. I did add live acoustic drums to blend the different textures of percussion. The lyrics aren't necessarily from a personal sentiment...but were sparked from a conversation I had with a regular/friend at one of my shows...where he'd asked me if I ever wanted to become famous....if my career was ever going to another level. It made me realize that I was relatively happy with my career and I wasn't a "starving" musician in any sense. So as long as I could make a living at it....life is good! Lyrics
- "Big Beer" - Written for some regulars at one of the bars I played who requested I write a song about their gigantic beer mugs. They were petite women who had handled their large beverages with dignity....so I couldn't say no. On the recording you can hear a live audio of a crowd yelling "Hip Hip Hooray!".... appropriately captured at that bar ("Garcia's") on one rowdy Thursday evening in '99. Lyrics
- "Georgia" - "Georgia" was written for one of my cover bands back in the day. We never played it live but It stuck around the archives. It's gone through a few musical face-lifts.......Lyrics are totally fictional.....Slide guitar sets the mood. Lyrics
- "Footsteps" - I was thinking Cheap Trick vocals with crunchy guitar choruses. The song is about dreams I've had where I am flying. In the dream, a walk turns into flight...usually through a pasture with an incredible landscape...and gradually elevates me over the hills. Go go gadget, legs! It's a great feeling. This is the only song on the album where there is no acoustic guitar...all electric...and loud. Lyrics
- "Something Good" - Through the years of performing live, I've encountered numerous times where patrons requested me to play "something good"....well, here ya go! Oh yeh, there's a basketball bouncing throughout the end of the song. Lyrics
